The Power of Affirmations

How to Use Them for Real Change

Why Do Affirmations Matter? Affirmations are more than just positive statements—they are a tool for transformation. When you consciously repeat affirmations, you rewire your brain, shifting from self-doubt and limiting beliefs to a mindset that supports your growth. If you’ve ever struggled with anxiety, depression, CPTSD, or feelings of unworthiness, you know how powerful your inner dialogue can be. Our thoughts shape our reality, influencing how we feel, act, and experience life. Affirmations help us take control of this inner dialogue, fostering self-trust, empowerment, and healing.

How Do Affirmations Work?

Science backs the power of affirmations. Studies show that repeating positive statements can:
✔️ Reduce stress and anxiety
✔️ Improve self-esteem and resilience
✔️ Reprogram negative thought patterns
✔️ Increase motivation and confidence
✔️ Support emotional regulation

When used consistently, affirmations help shift your subconscious beliefs. They create new neural pathways in your brain, reinforcing a more positive and empowering mindset.

How to Create an Effective Affirmation

Not all affirmations are created equal. To be truly transformative, they need to meet certain criteria.

💡 Follow these five steps when crafting your affirmation:

1️⃣ Use Positive Language

Focus on what you want, not what you’re avoiding.
🚫 Instead of: "I don’t want to feel anxious all the time."
✅ Try: "I am grounded, calm, and in control of my emotions."

2️⃣ Keep It Short

Your affirmation should be easy to remember and repeat daily.
✨ Example: "I am safe and supported in my healing."

3️⃣ Use the Present Tense

Act as if your affirmation is already true. This signals to your brain that change is happening NOW.
✨ Example: "I trust myself and my decisions."

4️⃣ Focus on Yourself, Not Others

Affirmations should center your personal growth. You can’t control how others think or act, but you can control your response and mindset.
✨ Example: "I am creating relationships that nourish and support me."

5️⃣ Push to Your Leading Edge

Your leading edge is where growth happens. It should feel a little uncomfortable—but also exciting and possible.

Imagine standing at the edge of a cliff. If you’re far back, you feel safe, but there’s no challenge or progress. If you move closer to the edge, your heart races. This is your leading edge—the space where you are stretching beyond old limitations without overwhelming yourself.

✨ Example: Instead of "I hope I can find confidence one day," say "I am stepping into my confidence daily."

Commit to the Practice: 10 Minutes a Day

Affirmations work only if you use them consistently. Think of them like exercise for your brain—the more you repeat them, the stronger the new belief becomes.

Try this simple daily practice:
📝 Write your affirmation in a journal every morning.
🗣️ Say it out loud for at least 10 minutes a day.
🎧 Record your affirmation and listen to it on repeat.
🧘🏽‍♂️ Pair your affirmation with deep breathing or meditation.

Over time, you’ll notice your thoughts shifting, your confidence growing, and your actions aligning with your affirmation.
